The Missouri medical marijuana card is administered by the state’s Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS). Medical marijuana cardholders registered in the Missouri Medical Marijuana Registry Program must renew their cards at expiration. There are three types of medical cannabis cards in Missouri:
The DHSS sends renewal notices to all registered cardholders 15, 30, 45, and 60 days before the expiration of their cards. Patients and caregivers are expected to apply for renewal on the Missouri Medical Marijuana Registry portal between 30 and 60 days before the expiration of existing cards. The DHSS has 30 days to process card renewals and cannot assure that a renewal request made later than 30 days prior to a card's expiration will be processed before the card expires.
Patients must be re-evaluated and recertified as eligible for medical marijuana therapy by healthcare providers before their cards can be renewed in Missouri. Their healthcare providers must submit new electronic physician certification forms on the medical marijuana registry portal. Patients must then submit all other documents required for renewal, including payment of applicable fees. They can then download and print their medical marijuana identification cards once the DHSS notifies them that their renewal applications are successful.
