Missouri is putting its cannabis tax dollars to work. This week, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) announced the official transfer of $23.3 million in revenue from adult-use marijuana sales, delivering on promises made when voters approved legalization in 2022.
Half of the funds—around $11.68 million—will support veterans’ healthcare and services through the Missouri Veterans Commission. The remaining funds will be used by DHSS to expand addiction treatment and overdose prevention programs, as well as housing, job support, and counseling for people in recovery.
For Missouri residents, especially veterans and families impacted by addiction, this marks a major step forward. It also shows the legal cannabis market is generating meaningful returns beyond just sales—investing in public health, strengthening community services, and reinforcing the state’s commitment to the goals outlined in the original legalization ballot initiative.
For cannabis consumers and businesses in Missouri, the announcement highlights the social impact of staying in the legal market—and how those purchases are helping fund real, statewide change.
